Abrasion Tester Machine

What is Abrasion

Abrasion is the process of scuffing, scratching, wearing down, marring, or rubbing away. It can be intentionally imposed in a controlled process using an abrasive. Abrasion can be an undesirable effect of exposure to normal use or exposure to the elements.

Abrasion testing is used to test the abrasive resistance of solid materials. The intent of abrasion testing is to produce data that will reproducibly rank materials in their resistance to scratching abrasion under a specified set of conditions.

The abrasion testing machine simulates abrasion condition which is used to evaluate the effect of abrasion resistance of concrete and concrete materials. The test is used to determine the abrasion resistance in terms of the wear depth of concrete in mm. The machine can be used in the laboratory as well as the field.

Purpose of Abrasion Test

When friction is the predominant factor causing deterioration of your materials, abrasion and wear testing provides data to compare materials or coatings and can help you predict the lifetime of your product. Abrasion testing is used to test the abrasive resistance of solid materials.

Types of Abrasion Tester

  • Plane or flat abrasion-A flat area of material is abraded.
  • Edge abrasion-This kind of abrasion occurs at collars and folds.
  • Flex abrasion-In this case, rubbing is accompanied by flexing and bending.

Abrasion Resistance measured

The abrasion resistance is measured in number of cycles. It is the number of cycles required to form either a pin hole in the test specimen

Factors Affect Abrasion

The intensity of abrasion depends on the hardness, concentration, velocity, and mass of the moving particles
